Be Safe Know Your Floatation

There are quite a number of different types of safety floatation devices which you can use depending on the situation you find yourself in. In this article, we’ll discuss some as well as their intended purposes.
TYPE I PFD (Personal Floatation Device) or the Offshore Lifejacket is the one, amongst all other PFD’s, that provides the wearer with the most amount of buoyancy. It is great to use for all kinds of waters and works extremely well even in the roughest, open or remote waters where chances of rescue might get delayed. It is also designed to make sure that most wearers who have fallen unconscious stay afloat in the water in a face-up position. These come in 2 sizes, one for the adults and another for children.
TYPE II PFD or the Near Shore Buoyant Vest is mostly intended for calmer waters where the chances of getting rescued are quick. The vest was designed to turn some unconscious wearers afloat in a face up position although it isn’t as effective and as pronounced as a TYPE I PFD.
TYPE III PFD or a Floatation Aid is mostly used for inland and calm waters where rescue is quick and easily managed. This vest is not designed to turn the wearer in a face up position unlike the first 2 types. However, its minimum buoyancy is the same as the TYPE II PFD. Some examples of the TYPE III PFD include fishing vests, float coats as well as various vests that were designed for water sports. There are also designs that are to be inflated once the wearer has entered the water.
Those are just some of the 3 most common types of safety floatation devices. Remember to always have one handy whenever you go fishing because you can never be too sure and its always better to be safe than sorry.
