Bait Reel continued...

The bait casting reel is one of the most commonly used reel. It was widely used starting the 1800s. It is a reel wherein the line is stored on a revolving spool supported by bearing. It is otherwise called the “overhead reel” because it is mounted above the rod. Basically, this reel describes a technique for fishing, which is bait-casting. The name likewise describes its purpose which is to cast live bait. The latest bait casting type reels use a revolving spool reel to cast artificial or live baits and lures. The weight of the bait pulls the line from the spool until it reaches the target. Its main goal is to get the bait to the fish even from a distance.

Bait casting is more commonly used in catching freshwater fishes like catfish, largemouth bass or northern pike. It is also suitable for catching saltwater species such as snook and tarpon. Some fishing enthusiasts prefer bait-casting reels for it offers high line capacity, power and accuracy, be it for short or long distances.
