Penn Slammer 460
The Penn Fishing Tackle Company has been around for more than 75 years already. What Otto Henze started in 1932 has grown to become one of the leaders in modern reel design and production.
With a rich history and a thick portfolio of achievements, Penn prides itself of being the preferred brand of millions of expert anglers worldwide. In the field of saltwater fishing, this brand has been the industry standard, what with so many innovations in its roster. The goal of the team behind this company is to make their patrons experience fishing better with their reels regardless of the skill level of the angler.
The Penn Slammer 460 model is considered as the brand’s top spinning reel. It features 6 ball bearings and a housing that’s all metal. These bearings allow smoother operation. There is an infinite anti-reverse system and a techno-balanced rotor. What maybe considered a downside of this reel system is its weight. At 19 ounces, this machine is quite heavy.
The 460’s HT 100 Drag Washer gives this reel the ability to drag excellently compared to others. Since this one is designed for saltwater fishing, its shaft is made of stainless steel.
Actual use of the Slammer 460 would show that the reel performs superbly, since the user can crank off some long casts with minimal effort. The spool of the reel gives a smooth release of the line with very little or no friction. It might be a bit slow at a speed ratio of 4.6 to 1, though. But overall, the 460 is an impressive reel to use.
