Sometimes, fishing is not just about getting something to eat. There are many occasions or times in which charter fishing enthusiasts had to throw the fish back into the water either because the fish is too small or the fish is considered endangered, and not legally allowed for fishing. The reason they catch these fish is for experience only. The problem is, there are right ways to catch and release fish. When not done the right way, these fishes could die in the ocean, so instead of saving them, damage is further done. Below you will find steps how on to do it right.
First, you need to handle the fish as little as you can. You should only handle the fish with wet hands and never with a towel because the cloth will just hurt the fish. It is also advisable to take pictures or videos of the fish while releasing them. This is enough proof that you released the fish back into the water.
It is also advisable to use knotless nets if nets are need to pull the fish out of the water. Knots can hurt the fish. After dragging the net out of the water, you can take the pictures or videos again for mementos. Keep in mind that the fish needs to get back to the water as soon as possible. You can take a few moments to measure it but not for long poses for picture taking. Do not hang the fish on a hook because it will just get hurt.
