In 1897, he founded the William Shakespeare, Jr. Company which eventually grew to about a dozen employees by the time 1902 came around. The company is now simply known as The Shakespeare Company and this name change occurred in 1915.
In 1939, William Shakespeare, Jr. invented yet another device, which is known as the “backlash” brake and is used to apply a subtle action reel brake in order to prevent the spools from back-lashing. This new Wondereel is among the most coveted reels to ever hit the market. During the same year, William also patented a newer two gear direct drive wheel. When you think about it, most people would assume that sport fishing is something that is exclusively for adults. However, all that changed in 2003 when the company released a line of fishing gears for children. The reel designs ranged from Barbie, Scooby Doo to the Looney Tunes making sure that every kid would find something for themselves. I hope you aren’t thinking that these are just toy reels.
