The Mighty Marlin
Although there are many species of Marlin, it is probably of interest for anyone to know that the most sought after among them is the Blue Marlin. It is one of the most celebrated or popular sports in terms of saltwater fishing. Other than its spectacular fighting ability, the Blue Marlin in itself is huge, mainly because it is something called sexually dimorphic. According to statistics, large adult males may reach up to 150 kilograms in size. This is almost three times the weight of an average adult human being. Females, on the other hand, may reach up to 400 kilograms!
Although there are many available fishing techniques for catching Blue Marlin, it is essentially the same with catching other fishes. Of course, although patience is not a technique, it is still a virtue that applies. One thing that would-be Blue Marlin fisher should take note is that there are different baits for fishing Blue Marlin. In this light, one must consider a marlin’s diet, which is comprised of a variety of fish. Some scientists even found out that marlins are eclectic feeders and that they prey even on miniature organisms like the filefish. This does not mean, of course, that you have to find organisms like this. Suffice it to say that a skipjack tuna will be enough as bait when fishing for marlin.
Just keep in mind, too, that marlins are very aggressive and are easily attracted to splashes in the water. For this reason, many fishermen use artificial baits to catch marlins, apart form other fishing styles.
